BAD 240 Research Paper Discrimination in the Workplace Imagine being restricted of certain jobs for reasons that have nothing to do with your capability to do something or your skills This is called discrimination. Discrimination is ââ¬Å"the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sexâ⬠(Oxford Dictionary). It is obvious that people have to go through this everyday just because they donââ¬â¢t fit the description of what society has imposed as the ideal or normal employee. It is unfair that people could have their right of getting a job just by their appearance. There is vast amount of laws passed that protect people against discrimination in the workplace and the U.S is working on decreasing these occurrences, but it seems like this issue cannot be erased completely. No one should have to experience discrimination. Although businesses and corporations sometimes do not have the choice to chose one aspect of a person over the other, there are still many reason s why people face discrimination, such as age, gender, race, and sexual orientation. These arenââ¬â¢t the only reasons. The list could go on and on. Sometimes, employers donââ¬â¢t mean to discriminate. If an employee is looking for a certain worker who for example, needs to carry heavy items, needs to be proficient in a certain computer software, or be able to analyze statistical data, the employee will not hire someone who doesnââ¬â¢t meet the criteria.
